SMA wins two awards at the Manufacturing Excellence Award 2017

SMA Solar Technology AG (SMA) wins the annual Manufacturing Excellence Award (MX-Award) in the Product Innovation and Process Innovation categories. Each year, the MX-Award is awarded to leading companies for their innovative solutions and best practices. In German-speaking countries it is considered a kind of industrial benchmarking competition. SMA received the award for the effective implementation of highly efficient processes of long-term cost reduction and for its innovative methods in the development of new products. As pointed out by the jury, with surprising effectiveness SMA was able to ensure its future in a complex market and lay the foundation to continue to operate profitably in an increasingly digital world of energy.

"We are very pleased that the experts of the jury have honoured our commitment with two awards. It is an achievement made possible in large part by the great motivation of our employees, our efficient production processes, innovations in the development of products and clear focus on productivity and the reduction of fixed costs, as well as a rigorous management of change", says Dr Jürgen Reinert, CTO and COO of SMA. "In this way, SMA has consolidated its leadership in the solar industry and - just two years after a company transformation that brought about profound changes - proven able to establish itself in a complex market and pave the way for its customers towards an energy world that is increasingly digitised".
Each year the MX-Award competition recognises manufacturers for their innovative solutions. In addition to its industrial partners, the event is supported by the Department of Logistics of the University of Berlin (TU) and the Chair of Production Systems at the University of Aachen (RWTH). Thanks to the structured and professional feedback of these experts, the participating companies can receive valuable stimuli for the perfecting of their methods and processes. The MX-Awards assessment consists of two levels: first the applications are assessed by identifying the best in the categories of Quality management, Management culture and integration of personnel, Technology, Logistics and network management, Process innovation, Product innovation, Customer focus, Best SME and drawing up an overall ranking. Then a thorough on-site analysis is carried out by independent industry experts.
